Orb Energy Pte Ltd, which provides solar energy systems to off-grid households, has raised $1.1 million in equity funding from non-profit venture firm Acumen Fund. The funding will be used by Orb to extend its household lighting systems to rural customers and scale its manufacturing, besides developing new products.
Existing investors in Orb Energy include London-based Zouk Ventures (which manages $100 million across two venture funds) and the Singh family, who founded UK-based retailer New Look (and took it private with Apax and Permira in a $1 billion deal in 2004).
Orb sells, installs and services a full range of systems including solar photovoltaic systems for lighting and back-up power, solar thermal for hot water, solar street lighting for security, as well as energy-efficient lights, fans and other appliances. Over the last four years, Orb has installed approximately 25,000 solar systems. It currently operates 90 branches across four states – Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Maharashtra. A German company from Karlshuld has released the Endora SC-1, a sports car combining the past and the present. The SC1 is based on sixted generation Corvette technology.
In its body shape the SC-1 among other things looks about the concept cars once built in the fifties, sixties and early seventies. Modern and timely interpreted without being too ?retro“ the SC-1 has sharply patered front, holding high-intensity-discharge headlamps and LED-fog lights, a long engine hood, an upward designed belt line including a swing and a flowing rear end. The rear of the SC-1 houses two LED-taillights.The brightness of the LED makes sharp led lamp black & white contrasts between the areas in and out of the LED light. Below the beltline one can find a black painted diffusor that contains the back-up- and fog-lamps.
The coupé is equipped with a 6.2 liter Aluminum V8 engine producing 437hp and 424lb-ft of torque. The second step in matters of power would be another eight cylinder developing 512hp and 470lb-ft of torque out of its 7.0 Liter engine. The top-of-the-line model will feature a supercharged version of the 6.2 liter V8, that will deliver 647hp and 604lb-ft of torque to the rear axle. The S1 costs less than $8 and offers up to four hours of LED-based lighting for a day's worth of charging. The device is rugged and, as you can see in the picture, very bright.

While the House briefly discussed the measure, they delayed more discussion on the bill until later Wednesday or Thursday.
The state legislation would allow manufacturers to make the bulbs in Palmetto State, stamp them "Made in South Carolina" and sell them only in the state. Rep. Prosecutors on Tuesday started making their case that former strip club owner Rick Rizzolo should lose his freedom for violating the terms of his April 2008 supervised released.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Johnson, who led the 2006 criminal prosecution of the former Crazy Horse Too owner, charged in federal court that Rizzolo committed a "pattern of deceit" from the very day of his April 4, 2008, release from a Las Vegas halfway house.
Rizzolo concealed from his probation officer a series of lucrative financial transactions, including several with offshore trust accounts, Johnson alleged.IFC was placed on two-year probation in February following an incident led tube of hazing that occurred after an IFC ceremony in November. Some of the transactions were related to $1 million from the sale of a Philadelphia strip club one day before his release, Johnson said.
Johnson also accused Rizzolo of failing to pay the Internal Revenue Service more than $2.5 million in back taxes in recent years. He said Rizzolo owes the IRS $1.7 million stemming from his 2006 plea agreement, plus $827,000 from income earned that year.
Several IRS agents were in court as U.S. District Judge Philip Pro conducted a hearing on whether to send Rizzolo back to prison for failing to inform his federal probation officer, Eric Christiansen, about his post-prison business dealings.
Pro continued the hearing until May 9.
Christiansen testified that he did not learn of the $1 million Rizzolo received from the sale of the Philadelphia club -- and an additional $2 million he was supposed to get later -- until last summer.Existing optical-fiber technology is マジコンds inefficient at transmitting infrared light. One year later, Rizzolo also was supposed to get roughly $60,000 a month from the Philadelphia deal in stock sales for a total of $2 million, Johnson said. The first $789,000 was to go to his father to conceal the asset from creditors. His father died in March 2010.
Johnson alleged that Rizzolo for months portrayed himself to Christiansen as having no money, all the while knowing he was due the $2 million.
But Rizzolo's lawyer, Dominic Gentile, contended Rizzolo maintained a close working relationship with his probation officer and did not intentionally mislead him."PEOPLE ARE calling out (to our leaders) for (officials) to be responsible for inflatable swimming pools their misdeeds," declared Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo in his homily. Rizzolo, long suspected of having ties to organized crime, pleaded guilty to a felony tax charge in June 2006 to end a decade-long FBI racketeering investigation. Just over a week ago, Premier Helen Zille presented our plan to build an open opportunity society in the Western Cape and called it, "the Western Cape of our dreams".

We have budgeted for growth and jobs in a conscious effort to open opportunity to all the people of the Western Cape.

In January, three energy industry giants, General Electric, NRG Energy and ConocoPhillips announced they were tossing down $300 million to launch Energy Technology Ventures, a company with plans to nurture 30 or so companies with promising and innovative ideas for clean energy technology.
Closer to home, UMass Dartmouth is nurturing clean tech at its Advanced Technology and Manufacturing in Fall River. The Cambridge Innovation Center is offering green startups state-of-the-art technical and business support in Kendall Square.
The Clean Energy Fusion Center is helping to build green-tech companies in Waltham. The Institute for Energy and Sustainability is building a green zone for clean-tech companies in Worcester, and the Springfield Business Incubator is providing support for green tech innovations in the western part of the state.
Business incubators have been around for decades but the model got a huge boost when the Obama Administration announced last year that it planned to funnel $50 billion-worth of grants, low-interest loans and tax credits to clean tech startups throughout the nation.
O’Brien says, generally, the inventors and innovators designing new energy-efficient products, systems and services don’t have the time or the wherewithal to slog through the red tape that bundles all that federal funding.
“The typical client is probably an engineer whose love and passion is engineering,” he says. “These people don’t want to spend 40 hours a week trying to find grants to fund ideas.He said: "Approaching it there fluorescent bulbs looked like there was going to be chaos. O’Brien says the center takes on that role for clean-tech designers who have outgrown the research and development labs in their basements.
