Orb Energy Pte Ltd, which provides solar energy systems to off-grid households, has raised $1.1 million in equity funding from non-profit venture firm Acumen Fund. The funding will be used by Orb to extend its household lighting systems to rural customers and scale its manufacturing, besides developing new products.
Existing investors in Orb Energy include London-based Zouk Ventures (which manages $100 million across two venture funds) and the Singh family, who founded UK-based retailer New Look (and took it private with Apax and Permira in a $1 billion deal in 2004).
Orb sells, installs and services a full range of systems including solar photovoltaic systems for lighting and back-up power, solar thermal for hot water, solar street lighting for security, as well as energy-efficient lights, fans and other appliances. Over the last four years, Orb has installed approximately 25,000 solar systems. It currently operates 90 branches across four states – Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Maharashtra. The company directly markets its products and employs more than 500 people for solar equipment sales, installation and service.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs.
With this new round of funding, Orb plans to double the number of branches and employees over the next two years. The Bangalore and Singapore-based firm will also expand the capacity of monthly sales and installations from 1,000 to 2,000 systems. In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.
India’s rural Base of the Pyramid (BoP) population includes 114 million households, 45 per cent of which do not have reliable access to electricity and rely on kerosene for lighting.
Several companies are trying to tap this demand. There is d.light, backed by the likes of Omidyar Network and Mahindra group, which provides affordable energy and lighting solutions based on solar and LED technology.
Then, there are other players like Patna-based Husk Power Systems that converts rice husk into electricity by using biomass gasification technology and has mini power plants located across off-grid areas. While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment
Acumen India, which has invested over $22 million in the country since 2001, has backed companies like Kochi-based ayurvedic chain Ayur Vaid Hospitals, Hyderabad-based LifeSpring Hospitals, Mumbai-based ambulance start-up service Dial 1298 For Ambulance and Drishtee, a rural communications company.

MusicLites Looks To Save Space By Combining LED Lights And Audio Into One
Looking for a way to pipe music through your entire house but don’t have enough space or you don’t know where to begin? Perhaps Artison and Osram Slyvania will be able to help you with that, with their MusicLites product which combines high fidelity audio and LEDs into one simple and elegant solution. The companies behind the product are Artison,In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards. who is a high-end quality audio technology firm while Osram Sylvania is North America’s number one lightning company and together they have created the MusicLites which was debuted today.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. The idea behind MusicLites was for a way for consumers who wanted a robust audio system but did not want to deal with all the power plugs and speaker wires.
How it works is that the light socket powers both the speakers and the light with the speakers communicating through a proprietary 2.4GHz wireless transmitter and receiver system which can be connected to basically any audio source such as stereos, televisions, computers, iPods, iPads, etc, so basically connecting it to your television could mean that the sound could essentially be broadcast to any room in your house that has MusicLites installed. A pretty neat and elegant solution which not only saves space but hides speakers from view, giving guests to your home the illusion that sound is coming from everywhere without them knowing that it’s actually coming from the ceiling.
.Kendall County has received some green for being green.
Tom Pence of the Illinois Clean Energy Foundation presented the county with $96,960 for installing LED lights in the county office building, the public safety center, the historic courthouse and the facilities management-coroner’s offices.
The grant paid for most of the cost of changing over the lights, and county officials found another grant to pick up the difference.
Pence said the lighting will cut the county’s energy usage by 80 percent,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment or put another way, the equivalent of enough energy for 54 homes.

Endora SC-1 Based on Corvette C6
Endora SC-1 Based on Corvette C6
A German company from Karlshuld has released the Endora SC-1, a sports car combining the past and the present. The SC1 is based on sixted generation Corvette technology.
In its body shape the SC-1 among other things looks about the concept cars once built in the fifties, sixties and early seventies. Modern and timely interpreted without being too ?retro“ the SC-1 has sharply patered front, holding high-intensity-discharge headlamps and LED-fog lights, a long engine hood, an upward designed belt line including a swing and a flowing rear end. The rear of the SC-1 houses two LED-taillights.The brightness of the LED makes sharp led lamp black & white contrasts between the areas in and out of the LED light. Below the beltline one can find a black painted diffusor that contains the back-up- and fog-lamps.
The coupé is equipped with a 6.2 liter Aluminum V8 engine producing 437hp and 424lb-ft of torque. The second step in matters of power would be another eight cylinder developing 512hp and 470lb-ft of torque out of its 7.0 Liter engine. The top-of-the-line model will feature a supercharged version of the 6.2 liter V8, that will deliver 647hp and 604lb-ft of torque to the rear axle. Every engine is mated to a six-speed-manual gearbox, while an automatic transmission with six gears and paddleshift is optional for the smallest V8.
The suspension of the SC-1 consists of cast aluminum upper and lower control arms, transverse-mounted composite leaf springs and monotube shock absorbers on all four ends. An electronic traction control is as standard as the Active Handling-system that monitors the driving dynamics. All Endora SC-1 will be delivered with 19 inch alloy wheels in the front and 20 inch rims in the back. As an option there will be 20 and 21 inch rims available.
The project looks promising, but it is now a waiting game until we see the first model on the road.

D.Light Launches An Ultra-Cheap Solar Lantern For Studying
Have you ever tried studying in the dark? How about studying in the midst of noxious fumes? It's not the best educational environment.
D.LightA few years back, D.Light, a startup that began as a Stanford design school project, announced that it had created the world's cheapest solar lantern. For you, with your electric lights, this doesn't seem like a big deal. For everyone who relies on kerosene (and all of its associated fumes) for lighting, it's a life-changer. It's newest offering, the S1, is designed specifically to help students.
Quality is subjective, but we tend to believe the company, which is backed by investors including the Acumen Fund and Draper Fisher Jurvetson. The S1 costs less than $8 and offers up to four hours of LED-based lighting for a day's worth of charging. The device is rugged and, as you can see in the picture, very bright.
So who is going to use this thing? Anyone who needs cheap access to reliable lighting--including students. In one pilot in India, every single one of 275 students surveyed claimed that they studied regularly with the D.light S1. All of the students reported increased productivity, cleaner air in their homes, and reduced risk of fire (as compared to kerosene).
For many users, the flagship D.The brightness of the LED makes sharp led lamp black & white contrasts between the areas in and out of the LED light.light S250 will remain ideal--it combines a solar-powered light and cell-phone charger in one. But for anyone who just needs a light by which to study, they now have a student-friendly option.

with a system of roundabouts
"Her job is incredibly hard considering we are all different kinds of pitchers with different strengths and weaknesses,As previously revealed in The Oxford Times, the county ds マジコン council is considering permanently removing the lights and replacing them with a system of roundabouts." Williams said.
"We also all have completely different personalities for her to deal with. That might be the harder part of her job.
"She is often the middle man between pitcher and pitching coach and that can't be an easy job. I can't say enough how amazing Amber is at her job.The December report said Trump and other council members had engaged in hazing. Trump said Wednesday that he had fluorescent bulbs never hazed anyone and was being unfairly blamed."
Schwartzenburg said Thomas doesn't get noticed precisely because she does her job so well.
"She makes it look so easy," Schwartzenburg said. "That's why no one notices her."
No one outside the LC team, anyway. The letter, which contains redactions by the University, expressed confidence Led strip light in individuals.
The players and coaches know just what Thomas means to the Lady Cats' success. How important is she?
When assistant coach Rawlen Scully announced last fall he would return for his 10th season, he had one lighthearted caveat.
"If Amber gets hurt," he said, "I quit. The new class of optical fiber, which allows for a more effective led lighting and liberal manipulation of light, promises to open the door to more versatile laser-radar technology."
Scully was joking, of course, but was serious about Thomas' importance to the team.
"She's our leader," Scully said this week."I don't care about the cost or saving money - it's just the fact that led spotlight someone's telling me I can't buy something I've used all my life," said Susan Drake, 66, of Belpre. "She's our spiritual leader as well as our defensive leader. When we pray, Amber is the one who leads it."
Thomas always downplays her contributions.

Opposition parties weren't impressed. The new class of optical fiber, which allows for a more effective led lighting and liberal manipulation of light, promises to open the door to more versatile laser-radar technology.
NDP Leader Jack Layton said Harper is "playing political games" with his platform.
"He's dangling things at the time of an election that he refused to deal with when he was dealing with the budget just a few weeks ago in the House of Commons."
Ottawa-area Liberal candidate David McGuinty, speaking for his party, said the platform's deficit-reduction plan lacks credibility. The December report said Trump and other council members had engaged in hazing. Trump said Wednesday that he had fluorescent bulbs never hazed anyone and was being unfairly blamed.
"It's the same kind of voodoo magic numbers that many members of Mr.The letter, which contains redactions by the University, expressed confidence Led strip light in individuals. Harper's government use in other settings where they throw a number up on a wall, throw a dart on a wall chart with a number on it and have the dart land on $4 billion."
Meanwhile, in Hamilton, Ont., Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff challenged the Conservative party to match his commitment to guarantee universal health care by extending an accord with the provinces that is slated to expire in 2014.
In their policy platform, the Liberals make no specific promise about how much extra money they will give provinces for health care. But on Friday, Ignatieff made a pledge to maintain an escalator deal that increases the value of the transfer payments to the provinces by six per cent every year."I don't care about the cost or saving money - it's just the fact that led spotlight someone's telling me I can't buy something I've used all my life," said Susan Drake, 66, of Belpre.
He argued that Harper would never be able to make the same commitment because of existing pledges to spend billions on new fighter jets, prisons and corporate tax cuts.
"It's up to Mr. Harper now to explain his priorities," Ignatieff said.
Ignatieff, who also outlined his pledge in an open letter to Canadians released Friday morning,As previously revealed in The Oxford Times, the county ds マジコン council is considering permanently removing the lights and replacing them with a system of roundabouts. said that the federal government must help the provinces pay for rising health-care costs associated with an aging population.
